Autonomous Anonymous - Silicon Valley Robotics Meetup

Autonomous Anonymous is a Robotics Meetup / Happy hour. It was started about a year ago but was discontinued few months back. 

Starting September 2011, I took the initiative to restart the Meetup. The Meetup will be hosted on the First Wednesday on Every Month from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. The venue will be changed on Monthly basis.

RoboEarth.org - WWW for Robots, How Cool!

As per the description on their website “RoboEarth is a World Wide Web for robots: a giant network and database repository where robots can share information and learn from each other about their behavior and their environment. Bringing a new meaning to the phrase “experience is the best teacher”, the goal of RoboEarth is to allow robotic systems to benefit from the experience of other robots, paving the way for rapid advances in machine cognition and behaviour, and ultimately, for more subtle and sophisticated human-machine interaction.”

Robotics in India

Robotics is one of the fastest growing tech craze in India, especially among college students. In past 4 years there has been a steep rise in Robotics Educational Institutes. From a handful of Robotics Institution in 2006 to approximately 50 odd such institutions in 2010, Educational institutes have caught on to Robotics like wild-fire. Reminds me of the days when during the IT boom around 2000 the way the IT Training courses and institutes we growing at a Rapid pace, making India an IT hub within next five years. Hopefully this boom in Robotics brings about the change in Indian Market which was highly dependent on IT for providing jobs to all its engineers. Also IT jobs are dependent on foreign countries who outsource the jobs to India, however considering the Robotics market trend it seems that India itself has a huge demand and comparatively will need much more supply to sustain its hunger for Robotics.

Telepresence - Whats the fuss all about??

“Is Telepresence robot really that big a deal?”

“It’s just a Computer with Skype on wheels!!!”

“No one will ever buy this!!”

These are the most common thoughts of people I have talked to about this idea. Initially even I had the same thinking. And why not, it does not make sense to spend thousands of dollars on a Computer with Wheel…what the heck it’s not ever a complete computer, it just has one application (app), that of telepresence or remote-presence.
